An unforgettable experience at Idiom Wines

In the heart of the Helderberg range in Somerset West lies Idiom Wines and this is where an unforgettable experience awaits the traveler, tourist of visitor.

Situated in the southernmost part of the Stellenbosch wine region, Idiom benefits from a stunning backdrop and ideal climatic conditions that allow for an incredible range of wines. But Idiom offers far more than just exceptional wine. Idiom offer a full sensory experience. Sunset dinners and events

The Idiom Restaurant in Somerset West is open from Monday to Sunday until 5pm for breakfast and lunch and on Fridays for dinner until 9pm.  Idiom Wines offers two unique evening experiences that celebrate the best of wine, food, and breathtaking views.

The Thursday Themed Wine Evenings aims to explore their diverse collection of varietals through vertical and comparative tastings in a relaxed, interactive setting. This is followed by a delicious wine-paired dinner themed to match the wines of the night.

 

Idiom Friday Sunset Dinners is prefect to ease you into the weekend. This is the time for you to unwind with a 3-course meal and a glass in hand as the sun dips over the Cape.

Idiom provides the perfect setting for an unforgettable, exclusive event. Against a backdrop of breathtaking panoramic views, every celebration is elevated. Guests can toast with a glass of bubbly as the sun sets over the vineyards and mountains, creating memories that linger long after the day ends.

Drive and Fynbos

Guests are invited to take an unforgettable guided scenic drive through Idiom Wine Farm’s vineyards and the natural fynbos. It is a captivating drive through the eco reserve where the guest can experience the beauty of the wine farm. This is where nature, vineyards and wildlife meet to create a magical experience.

See the Fynbos like never before, learn about its earthy scent that lingers in the air long after you walked past. A mix of colour and hardy scrubs softens the terraces and blends the elegance of Idiom Vineyards with the raw beauty of the mountain slope.

From the upper slopes of Idiom Wines, standing on the hill, the view onto the old Voortrekker trek will steal your glance as you feel the past lingering in the present. At this point, where the traveller is rewarded with a rare glimpse into both history and the natural beauty of the Helderberg, heritage and scenery meet.

You can expect an experienced, professional and knowledgeable guide with a natural ability to make guests feel welcomed, informed, and relaxed throughout the journey. The drive makes the landscape feel alive and every corner of the property has a heartbeat. The vineyards have secret stories, eager to reveal itself to the guest.

The traveller will be thrilled to see animals like the springbok, blue wildebeest and the duiker. The occasional Cape leopard may indulge the visitor with a rare view of its presence. Birdwatchers, too, will be delighted, with sightings of sunbirds, eagles, and other local species adding a natural flourish to this unique Helderberg experience.

Wine and dine at Idiom

Enjoy a delicious gourmet meal at the Idiom restaurant while taking in and breathtaking views of the False Bay Peninsula. Here, the diverse world of wine comes alive against a dramatic backdrop of the rugged mountains, 360-degree panoramas of the Peninsula, and the picture-perfect Idiom vineyards.

The dining area has large windows, allowing in natural light and a full view of the property. Indoor décor has thoughtfully been curated to blend the natural surroundings with sophistication and comfort. Every detail from lighting to tableware—has been thoughtfully curated to create a space that is at once sophisticated, comfortable, and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. A fine balance between tradition and innovation sits harmoniously.

The Idiom menu is a remarkable fusion of Italian and South African cuisine and speaks of creativity, skill, and a touch of indulgence. For the gourmet diner, the vegetarian, the pizza lover, and the sweet tooth, the menu truly has something for everyone.

Pizzas are named after different Italian regions, with toppings to match whilst canapé & wine pairings, macaron & wine pairings an antipasto platter, cheese boards and regional Italian offerings are available.

Wine tasting flights of Idiom’s single varietals and signature blends are also on offer and visitors can explore the estate’s full spectrum of flavours. Book a wine tasting, choosing between one of their 6 signature wine tastings. For the full experience guests can opt to book a table to enjoy the Idiom fine wine-and-dine experience.

Idiom Wines has won Double Gold at the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards with their 2021 Idiom Bordicon, proving why this vineyard’s craftmanship. Adding to Idiom’s proud moment, their Idiom Rodanico 2021 also secured a Gold medal.

The Michelangelo Awards bring together expert judges from around the world, offering South African wines the opportunity to shine on the global stage. These accolades honour the craftsmanship behind our future vintage releases.

Idiom’s 2022 Cape Blend has added yet another accolade to the estate’s growing list of achievements, earning Cape Blend Winner recognition at the 2025 Perold ABSA Cape Blend Competition. This rare honour highlights Idiom’s skill in crafting world-class, Pinotage-led blends with distinctive character. Beyond celebrating a single vintage, the award underscores the vineyard’s consistent excellence and the rising recognition of Pinotage as a grape capable of delivering elegance, complexity, and unmistakable South African flair.

The Perold ABSA Cape Blend Competition is one of South Africa’s most prestigious wine competitions. Established to celebrate excellence in blended wines, the competition is judged by panels of seasoned wine makers, critics and experts.

A unique Idiom story

During a scenic drive through the Idiom Wines property, two guests were lucky enough to witness a baby springbok taking its very first steps.

The guide quietly pointed out the tiny fawn, still damp from birth and wobbly on its legs, as it tempted to walk. After a few tentative steps, it tumbled gently to the ground. The guide explained that they needed to step back, giving the fawn space and allowing its mother to return safely.

This intimate moment was a glimpse of nature’s wonder. The visitors later described it as magical. Both the visitors and the guide was left utterly captivated and ecstatic with the experience.
