Fifty-Five Mjejane Designated as 5-Star Benchmark Property by Tourism Grading Council

The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA) has bestowed the prestigious title of Benchmark Property upon Fifty-Five Mjejane in its recent TGCSA Corner newsletter. This accolade follows the lodge’s recent attainment of a coveted 5-star grading, marking it as an exemplary destination for luxury accommodation within South Africa.

Benchmark properties recognised by the TGCSA are esteemed for their exceptional product offerings, irrespective of their star grading category. These establishments are highlighted for inclusion in South African Tourism’s itineraries, promoting inclusive growth by integrating emerging businesses and encouraging travel across diverse regions of the country.

“It’s such a privilege to be identified as a benchmark property, as this is testament to our exceptionally appointed lodge.” Says, Amy van Emmenis, spokesperson for Fifty-Five Mjejane, “The architecture of our lodge draws inspiration from the flora and fauna of the area as well as its historically Zulu architecture – staying true to the history of the land. The lodge pays homage to the original settlers of the land and their Zulu culture, without compromising on luxury”

TGCSA Star Grading is a globally recognised official ranking system that informs travellers about the quality and facilities provided by establishments such as hotels, B&Bs, and guest houses. Local properties can achieve star ratings ranging from 1 Star (basic facilities) to 5 Stars (luxury accommodations), reflecting their overall quality and expected amenities. The assessment process ensures that diverse types of accommodations, from boutique B&Bs to expansive hotels, are fairly evaluated against relevant criteria.

Fifty-Five Mjejane, situated within the Mjejane Private Game Reserve in Mpumalanga, offers a unique safari experience on the banks of the Crocodile River. As part of the Greater Kruger area, the lodge provides unparalleled opportunities for Big Five game viewing amidst a setting inspired by traditional Zulu architecture. Guests can immerse themselves in the authentic African atmosphere of ‘Umuzi’, a cluster of six beehive-shaped huts (‘Indlu’), while enjoying stunning wildlife sightings from the lodge’s deck. The lodge also boasts a chef’s kitchen, TV Lounge, library with built in bar, games room, pizza oven, indoor and outdoor dining, infinity pool and guests are treated to unobstructed views of the indigenous bush and the captivating Crocodile River which offers guests the unique opportunity to spot the Big 5 – elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalos – right from their doorstep.
