Indalo Breaks into Burgeoning Joburg Aparthotel Market

Afrirent subsidiary Indalo Hotels & Leisure Management today announced its successful bid to manage the Saxon Square Aparthotel in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The Saxon Square Aparthotel, which will be managed by Wink, is a stylish eco-friendly residential and aparthotel development in Joburg located on the prestigious Oxford Road, close to Rosebank’s central hub. This aparthotel offering will combine the privacy and comfort of apartment living with the convenience and exceptional service of a hotel.

“This is Indalo’s first foray out of our established base in Cape Town and we’re extremely excited at the prospect of growing our portfolio further into South Africa’s commercial hub,” comments Andrew Rogers, CEO Indalo Hotels & Leisure Management. “The Saxon Square Aparthotel management contract is a significant milestone in our efforts to build a sustainable hospitality management brand in the burgeoning aparthotel sector,” adds Rogers, an industry expert with over 27-years of hospitality experience in Southern Africa. The Saxon Square Aparthotel management contract adds to Indalo’s growing portfolio, which includes recent additions such as the Fountains Hotel in the Cape Town city bowl.

The management contract includes operating a stylishly decorated Wink Café on the property, which will ensure that short and long-stay residents can enjoy refreshing drinks and a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options, along with high-speed Wi-Fi. According to Rogers, Joburg is an important location for domestic business travellers, and international tourists connecting to other cities.

“With most companies pushing for a return to some form of hybrid working model, we expect workers to start travelling again periodically, especially those that used the pandemic-influenced remote working trend as an opportunity to semigrate.” Increasingly, corporate business travellers are opting for fully serviced apartments, which offer private and comfortable accommodation and more space with the convenience of hotel services and amenities.

According to figures from the Global Serviced Apartments Industry Report 2020-2021, 67.74% of corporates now use serviced apartments for business travel. Rogers also expects international tourism to pick up throughout the year, with travellers looking for accommodation options in Joburg as they transit through this iconic city. “We look forward to the opportunity to streamline operations, boost occupancy and increase revenue while improving overall guest satisfaction at the iconic Saxon Square property,” concludes Rogers.
