Lions Introduced to Tshabalala Wildlife Sanctuary

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has introduced three lions to the Tshabalala Wildlife Sanctuary, just 10km outside of the city of Bulawayo.

“Four more lions will be moved to the sanctuary before the onset of the rains, bringing the total to seven cats,” says Tinashe Farawo, PR Manager of ZimParks.

Tshabalala hosts a variety of birdlife and wildlife, including guinea fowl, francolins, giraffe, zebra, warthog, impala, tsessebe and other smaller antelope, and many species of wild birds and waterfowl. The sanctuary also offers driving, cycling, and horse-riding activities for visiting travellers.

Zimparks has a mandate to manage the entire wildlife population of Zimbabwe, whether on private or communal lands. Private landowners can utilise the wildlife on their land but are still accountable to the authority for the welfare of the animals.
