It’s official – Qatar Airways has been named AirlineRatings.com’s best airline for 2024 – evidence that despite increasing traveller complaints, many of the world’s carriers have soared above and beyond expectations.

The U.S. Transportation Department recently reported receiving nearly 97,000 complaints from air travellers in 2023, the highest number since 2020. Complaints against both US and foreign carriers covered various issues, including delays, cancellations and inadequate accommodations for disabled passengers.

“There are always going to be ups and downs when it comes to air travel, but it’s pleasing to see how much effort many leading global carriers are putting in to maximise the traveller experience,” comments Lynette Machiri, Customer Experience Leader at Flight Centre South Africa.

“For Saffers specifically, Singapore Airlines topped the list (also AirlineRating.com’s pick for ‘Best First Class’), followed by Emirates (AirlineRating.com’s winner for ‘Best In-Flight Entertainment’ and ‘Best Premium Economy’) and Airlink tied in second place, and Qatar Airways coming in third,” says Machiri.

Below, we take a closer look at the reasons these airlines are passing the customer feedback test with flying colours, from comfort to catering and everything in between.
